Cost of flight (around $700-800) plus about $500 a week plus probably $150 or so to get to Machu Picchu and back to Cusco and flight to Cusco will probably be somewhere between $150–$250.00 r/t. Fly, don’t take the bus, to Cusco.

Cusco is relatively expensive, but you should be able to find a comfortable hotel for around $30.00 a nite.

I went a couple of years ago when the dollar was stronger against the SOL, and spent about $1500 for three weeks, including flight.

    Edit:

Bruno’s number is MUCH too high. Don’t book anything in the U.S. except your flight and your first night hotel in Lima. You can save lots of money by going to a travel agency in Lima to get to Cusco and then to the RR station in Cusco to get ticket to MP. If you’re going to stay overnight near MP–which I recommend very much, stay in Aguas Calientes but book it in Cusco before you leave or AC when you get off the train.
